TASTE THE NEW BROOKLYN

We're showcasing the best that Brooklyn has to offer.

About the Festival

The Bedford Stuyvesant Gateway BID presents it's annual “Toast Of Brooklyn – A Wine and Food Festival 2013” on September 14th. This Fall festival will combine the distinctive and eclectic taste of Brooklyn’s culinary experience with wines and spirits from around the world. Join us for an exciting journey, as guests go on a taste-tour in the elegantly redesigned Courtyard and grand tenting of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza. Designed to capture the feel of an outdoor wine country tour, guests and celebrities will mingle among the enticing displays of wines and food, presentations by artisans and a mixture of neighborhood wine and food enthusiasts. In addition, a spectacular display of crafts from indigenous tribes around the world will offer a peek into our diverse world. The "Toast of Brooklyn 2013" dazzling displays of wine, food, live cooking demonstrations by renowned chefs and specialty restaurants will educate your palates, while you are serenaded by some of New York’s premiere jazz musicians and live entertainment from various artists. Guests can groove to "Wine and Song" all day long, and enjoy food samplings in high style. To ensure a memorable evening, the "Gateway Art Experience" will stimulate guests, as they pause to view an amazing exhibition curated by one of Brooklyn's best known artists, Danny Simmons. Danny is an American abstract painter from New York, who once coined his style of painting as "neo-African Abstract Expressionism." Art Gallery by Danny Simmons

Danny Simmons, Jr., is an American abstract painter from Queens, NY, who once coined his particular style of painting as “neo-African Abstract Expressionism.” Among the most impressive artists of his day, The New York Times says that he “injects freshness” into his abstracts, and that they are “meticulously rendered and decoratively impressive.” Simmons’ works can be seen all over the world in such prominent establishments as Chase Manhattan Bank, The Smithsonian, United Nations, and more. Co-founder and president of the Rush Arts Gallery, Simmons is also founder and VP of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization “dedicated to providing disadvantaged urban youth with significant arts exposure and access to the arts,” as well as a former board member of the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Public Library, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the National Conference of Artists. Danny Simmons holds a Bachelor’s degree in social work from New York University, a Masters in public finance from Long Island University, and is the recipient of an honorary PhD from Long Island University. Simmons sits on the Boards of Long Island University, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Bridge Park National Conference of Artists, Hampton University Museum and remains an adviser to the Brooklyn Museum. He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
